Make Future Planning Easier with a Family Timeline Spreadsheet

Sometimes it helps to zoom out a bit in your planning and get a look at long-term family milestones. I created this timeline spreadsheet that gives me a quick birds-eye view of relative ages and important moments. P

For me, the key to this timeline is simplicity, so there's not a lot of detailed information recorded there. I have other systems for planning details. But a simple chart like this has proven pretty useful over the years, since it really puts those big moments you want to plan for in perspective. It's also fun to see what ages people will be over the years. P

Of course, you should put any information into it that would be helpful to you. This one is just a sample template I put together in Google Docs (not my family's real information) and I shared it, so you're more than welcome to grab it if you find it useful

Remapping the Animation Hierarchy in Unity

Working with animations in Unity has some quirks. Sometimes I will make an animation and I animated the wrong object. I might have realized I want to animate the container for an object, or accidentally animated the parent when I wanted to animate the child (this happens more often than I’d like to admit!). Cube2 has been renamed to MegaCube, breaking the animation. Unity does not come out of the box with functionality to remap animations between objects.  But there are a few options to make your life easier. Unlock Animation Secrets: Mastering Unity's Motion Time in Animator States

This page is dedicated to a little known, but very powerful feature of Animator Controller States: MotionTime What Does It Do? According to Unity , Motion Time is described as: "The time used to play the motion for this state. Enable Parameter to control the motion time with a custom value from a script." ....That is not a great description of what this is capable of. Admittedly, this is a concept that is hard to put into words. A Slightly Better Description Simply put, this feature will allow code to directly manipulate what frame the Animation State is playing in the Animation Clip, assigned.
